So last night I didn't write because I was really tired, to be honest with you. So...
Where to begin.... Ah yes, Yesterday was awesome. I had a casting director workshop with Eric Souliere. I am now debunked of some rumors I've heard over the past few years. He began his workshop saying contractually he's not allowed to say what production company he works for but then he proceeded to give us the address and told us that now that he "knows" us, we can send stuff to him. That was cool. Someone in the class asked how he looks through Breakdowns/ActorAccess submissions and he mentioned that he filters them by people he recogizes, then people who fit the role and have intruigued him. He narrows it down to about 30 people and he does a pre-read with those and goes from there.
As far as union status--yeah okay, I better turn union before I get here in order to work with more than 75% of LA. I asked him about his preference to working with Non-Union actors and he mentioned that in his entire career (4 years) he has only taft-hartley'd (turned a non-union actor SAG) 2 actors. On his last set, the director requested that 3 of his friends be on the film to turn SAG and Eric mentioned that the film got a hefty fine for doing that. When it comes to his audition room style, he had a few pet peeves: -not knowing your boundaries; -be mindful of the camera; -come in, do your scene, say thank you, and leave. IT was funy because when a younger id asked him what the craziest thing that's happened to him in an audition, he said that an actor asked to have the reader on camera with him and during the scene licked the reader's ear. He mentioned that if casting directors are taping the audition, be aware that others ARE GOING to be watching it so don't lay on the floor to do your audition where the camera isn't. Eric also mentioned to not bring any fancy "I'm unique so remember me" crap (like purposely tripping in the room).
He sat down next to me while everyone read for him, which I thought was GREAT! because it gave me a chance to see everybody's resumes and see where they study compared to how they perform! I got to see some great people get up and work, so that was cool! I did an alright "audition", I don't really know what to think mainly because, hell, he said "Great Thank You" to everyone that read. Overall, was awesome because I completely embarassed myself before it was done. At the end of all our "auditons" he asked if we had anymore questions and a guy asked him what he did outside of being a casting director. All he said was "I do stuff...." Okay, whatever man! But he asked again if there were any other questions and I thought "What's your favorite food?".....well.....the thinking wasn't just thinking... and I realized that I said it outloud after the whole room cracked up and he looked at me and was like, "What? My favorite food?" He laughed it off with me. He didn't give an answer, he just said "I don't have a specific answer for you". So whatever, again, man. Hahaha... But when I left I thanked him and there was a weird "You're cool" energy coming from him. So we'll see, I'll keep in touch with him.
After all that, I went back to my home away from home and then went to my acting coach's party! That was fun, we had lots of home cooked goodness and hung out in the hot tub. I'm sure pictures from that'll start showing up on Facebook! Groovy ness.
Well, considering it's mid-day monday, I'm gonna keep today a secret and type that in when I get home. I got a meeting with Dallas Travers, a class with Ryan Glasgow and a surprise..... hmm......................... stay tuned!!!
