Day 2 and going strong...
So today is probably one of the slower days I'll have compared to the rest of what is going on. I slept in a little bit more than usual--nice--then got up and started looking through the Agent/Manager books I got. I found about 10 managers and didn't quite get through all the agent matches when Katy, my friend I'm staying with, invited me out to YogurtLand! Oh man, best frozen yogurt in the world.
It's set up similar to a desert bar where you can pick and choose and you pay by weight. There's multiple flavors and you can add sprinkles, chocolate chips, cookie dough bites, etc. to the yogurt. I had a layer of NY Cheesecake flavor, Chocolate, and Red Velvet cake mix. It was really yummy.
Then we came back, partly because I thought I was meeting with my Acting buddy Chris at 5, but he had to postpone for an audition. So, I started the rounds of calling Managers. I mainly got voicemails. I didn't leave many messages because they probably really don't have time to call me back. But I did get in touch with a total of 3--one told me they weren't looking for anyone, one told me that he had a "full plate" but it felt like he still wanted to talk to me, and one that sounded really interested and asked me to e-mail my stuff to him. So far, I haven't gotten any e-mail responses back but it's good to know that I tried! Maybe Monday I'll go grab some envelopes and start sending out my stuff.
Then I met with Chris. Thank you Chris, you are a godsend! He reviewed my headshot, which he suggested that it makes me look too old-er and I have a little too much make-up compared to my everyday look. He also gave me reference to a friend of his who does headshots so I can get some good ones when I get moved out here. He also kinda helped me realize that I need to look at the "Before Roe was a Romantic lead..." roles that I can take. He was listing off things that he saw me as far as casting-wise. He also reviewed my demo reel, which was surprising what he had to say to me. He suggested that I leave my main scene as a whole and then just put a montage at the end of it. Then the big lightbulb that I've tried to keep dim with my smart idea went off when he said to start using a script website and shoot the scenes that mesh with my type. Bam! That was my idea all along! Now, I'm gonna put it into action full fledged. Now the void I must fill is to find a crew willing to help me shoot with some equipment. He basically said when I return to NM, my action plan is to get $$$ to save, and start shooting a lot of stuff to fill my reel. Well, NM, you better be prepared and open. This'll be fun! It was great to meet with him because he solidified a lot of what I was thinking to be true. He's willing to keep helping me out as well, so I'm thankful for that. Like I said, Chris, you are amazing!
After that adventure, I met up with my Katy and we went out with a couple friends of hers. We went to this "cougar bar" as they called it and it was just weird. It had an eerie feeling to it I think (creep factor). But that was fun hanging out and seeing a different kind of lifestyle (They live right next to a river where they can take a boat out to the ocean).
Tomorrow, I have filming to do. This will be fun and interesting! We'll see what happens with everything. It's going to be great!
Keeping your dream alive ... Woohoo!
