The Strength is in there, You have it. -Darcy, Yoga

So I had a grand day of lounging around the house cleaning and not really having a care in the world. Kinda--I actually took the day to get connected with what's going on in my acting career and re-analyze my game plan.

I found this website: http://www.virtualchannelnetwork.com and it has amazing advice, interviews with agents/managers/casting folks and they're honest. Everyone's from LA so they're speaking LA rules, but since that's where I want to be--it's good advice. Now what all did I get out of what they all spoke about. Well here's the similarities:
  1. Communication is key - FACE TO FACE or VOICE TO VOICE is best.
  2. Always be on your game
  3. Continually promote and treat the agent as an additional resource in your promotion kit
  4. Be Confident in yourself AND your skill/talent as an actor
  5. Honestly know what you are capable of and continually maintain with the industry changes
Most of the agents mentioned that the clients they represent are not from simple snail mail submissions, but from seeing their client in a movie, play or commercial where they stood out. The most calming quote that was said is "We will find you to represent you, as an actor just focus on getting work that will guide us to you." Keep doing anything that's available: Student films, indie films, stage work, commercials, pilots, workshops, showcases, etc. That's how they know that you're not some newbie but that you have a track record and worth risking they're reputation as an Agent/Manager/Casting Rep to bring you on as one of their talent pool. It also lets them gauge your comfort level with yourself and the talent you're available to. The Agent will contact you and set up meetings or the like, which is good!

After that, the best way to make sure you're always out there is to be in constant contact with the Agent so they can get to know you as a person. And something that was stressed over and over and over and over by different people was that it's better to give a phone call, or arrange a dinner/office meeting face to face than shooting off an e-mail. It's because the E-mail is so impersonal that it doesn't give the advantages of body language or time that a phone call or office meeting does. I give myself props because I was trying to do this with Vince. Since I moved down I met with him face to face as much as I could until he started acting really weird--that's when I went to impersonal e-mails because I didn't know what to expect from him.

The other suggestion of "always being on your game" is something I'm fulfilling very well. I'm constantly working on my physical self (with going to yoga at least 5-6 nights a week!) and I've been keeping in class, jumping at every opportunity for workshops and classes, I've been working independently on script breakdowns and analysis of movies. I made a big jump today where I went and got actual scripts from Showfax. These scripts are things that are shooting and are for actual auditions--so it works great because then I know what I'm looking at in the future!

I was watching an interview with Kate Romero with Guardian Angel Management. Her management style is very much about spiritual connection and confidence. I looked into her website because she is someone that I would love to have represent me and one of the quotes on there is:

We all need a Guardian Angel...even Guardian Angels need them. If we are yours then you are also ours. We represent one another.

It's a really good quote that I need to keep with me. That's why I believe it's a good idea to put an Agent/Manager as being another resource in your promotion tool box.

Which brings me around to the title of the blog. Everything I've done up to this point has been restricted through a lack of confidence and likability about myself. So I'm going to do my best to boost those up a bit. Using my first Love Language as "Words of Affirmation," the first step is to look in the mirror and repeat that I am someone special and deserving. Second, similar to the Focus on the Positive exercise... I'm gonna do a Focus on the Good Roe stuff exercise so it's also visual in addition to the verbal affirmation, so here we go with 30 Good Roe Stuffs:

  1. I am adorable
  2. I can make people laugh
  3. I like my eyes
  4. I'm tall... 5'10''
  5. I have nice curves to my body
  6. I have boobs!
  7. I understand behaviorist/energy things like when the body hurts what it could be connected too
  8. I'm strong willed
  9. I'm a risk taker
  10. I look good with or without make-up
  11. I like my dark blonde hair
  12. I'm starting to listen to the right voice, and not the destroyer voice
  13. I have nice feet
  14. I'm very flexible
  15. I like networking and talking to people
  16. I am comfortable being a recluse and in my aloneness
  17. I have a very verstile look--from 1940's to business to teenager to host
  18. I've had many experiences that will make my performance different and stand out
  19. I like to eat mandarin oranges, Kimchi and hummus
  20. I care about my body to keep it in shape and treat it well
  21. I love to fall in love
  22. I have started to create a happy lifestyle with stillness and going for what I want.
  23. I am becoming more comfortable with the emotions and energies that happen when I need them for acting in scripts/class/on sets
  24. I am an auditory then visual personality
  25. I can still kick my leg and hit my nose with my knee
  26. I can still do the splits
  27. I believe in Santa
  28. I am not afraid to put myself out there
  29. I like reading what I have been about self improvement
  30. I don't need to defend myself when it comes to acting anymore--I am doing, I am being, and I am an actor. Period.
That was a lil difficult. But its gonna get harder as I keep going since I can't repeat the majority of what I've already listed! AND Keep me honest with myself readers, because if I post a duplicate, that's not helping me!

I also looked into getting a Website--but that might have to wait until after the 1st of the year since even with the holiday prices, it still isn't in the budget right now. We'll see what happens...

After all that... I leave you with this quote.....

If you really put a small value upon yourself, rest assured that the world will not raise your price.
