"It is better to risk starving to death then surrender. If you give up on your dreams, what's left?"
~Jim Carrey
Now most of you don't know me from squat; the biggest gig I've done is a feature film called "Looking For Sunday" where I was a featured extra. I've done some smaller scale student films in Colorado and attempted in creating my own (only to find acting is my mind-blowing excitement to live). For those who do know me, you either have stuck by me or think I'm completely foolish for sacrificing my two dogs health and well-being to chase an insecure reality. To the latter, I say this:
"Action may not always bring happiness, but there is no happiness without action."

I have found most of my support in the format of books where you'll occasionally see me quote (honestly, always quote). The majority of these books were part of the 80% of the gas needed to leave Colorado (good ridden!) and they'll supply the other 20% to keep me here until it's time for Hollywood. So far, I have set up my action plan which I'll call the "Acting Workout." Hence, bringing me to why I have decided to blog about this.
I got a slap in the face when I came down here about 2 weeks ago for an acting workshop--I was no where near the level to be competitive: I had no structured method to breaking down a script; I had no way to access the truth between me, the script, and the audience; I had no idea how slow my progress was going. If I was going to fulfill my dream as an actor by the age of 25, I had to change something--AND QUICK! I looked around my circumstances and determined the factors: I was not being pushed enough, I was not being held accountable, and I was not inspired to do more for myself.

"An Event creates a Belief which causes Emotions which Behavior produces the Results"

And with using that method of thought: I chose to see that slap in the face Event as a positive, which created the Belief that Area 51 would be Exciting which has created the Inspiring, Positive Emotions in which will, in turn, mold me into a better actor--the results I want to see! And while I was returning to my Yoga practice tonight, I thought, what would hold me accountable to my "Acting Workout" and push me through the next 60 Days before Pilot Season to get my agent confidently saying "Yes, Roe, Go to Hollywood!" ? And my first thought was to blog about it. If it's out there, in the sea of the World Wide Web, it's bound to be found by some true followers that will want to know if I completed my script breakdowns, if it's truly improving my acting, if I get a booked gig from all my hard work! And if I gain some fans, some followers, or even some new friends--that's the biggest bonus I can ask for. Plus, it might gain some advice for me as I dig myself through the trenches of my life to correct negatives to positives and make me more successful. And if this information even touches and helps someone else to dream their seemingly impossible dream, then it was all worth it.

Tomorrow, November 4th, marks Day One of Year One. I'm hitting the reset on the odometer since now, I am honestly doing. May it be good as I will start with the exercise # 2 of the "Acting Workout": read a script for a movie, choose a character and breakdown the script, then watch the movie to see how the actor works it and see how my choices would work out.
Alright, world, be prepared! I am unstoppable. I will leave with this quote:

"When I examined the lives of successful people, I noticed that they seemed to use their physical and emotional traumas as a stimulus, not self-indulgently suffer, but to inspire and drive their great achievements...In their performances, great actors were instinctively mirroring the behavior and nature of great people."

GO ROE!
ReplyDeleteI'm interested to see this blog progress.
Also, that excercise #2 is intriguing, I've never thought about that, but it seems like a very good practice.
